ray
Ray is one of those precious few biopics that just gets everything right. Not merely a homage to the late and great Ray Charles nor a mere fascination with his undeniable genius, Ray captures the essence of the rhythm and blues auteur and explores him as deeply and completely as possible. This movie does not just tell the story of Ray Charles; it lives and breaths in harmony with him and his music. It is Ray Charles. The penetrative writing (which isn't afraid to expose Charles' demons) taps into his mind, the mesmerizing performance by Jamie Foxx harnesses his heart, and the sounds of Charles' very own music ties it all together, capturing his soul. No film in recent memory has so wholly understood such a giant among men.
