red eye
It didn't take the dismal failure of Cursed to stop Wes Craven from making good movies, that's for sure. Although I never saw the movie, I still realize that Craven's restriction from creative freedom by the Weinsteins led to the movie's critical and financial letdown, and so it's good to see him back on his feet with a great story on his hands. Red Eye follows the setup of your average Hitchcockian potboiler one frail and unlikely heroine, one dominating and coldblooded villain, a big ransom, a dramatic rush, and little detail. Much like Hitchcock, Craven doesn't have an exorbitant budget to spend, so he spends the time pinpointing the tension suffering between the characters played by McAdams and Murphy. Red Eye is a white-knuckled, edge-of-your-seat cliffhanger that thrills, chills, and absorbs the audience.
